This is book 1 in a new 2 book series. Hard to Hold is the story of Wolfe, Amy and Rhys. They live in a small town in Texas. Wolfe is a furniture maker and the cousin of the Walkers so we already know he is HOT! Amy is new to the town and is on the run from an abusive monster and Rhys is the Town Sheriff. Wolfe was smitten with Amy the first time he saw her. He didn’t know what was wrong but knew something was wrong because when she smiled it didn’t go to her eyes and she was always watching the door and around her. Rhys was bi-sexual and new he wanted more but didn’t know exactly what he wanted until he saw Amy. He always had feelings for Wolfe but didn’t know for sure if the feelings were mutual. Wolfe had done some experimenting and there was an attraction to Rhys but with Amy he didn’t know how anything would work. You are also introduced to Lynx who is Wolfe’s cousin and Reagan who is Rhys sister. This book does start out slow but once it is going hold on because there is drama, the discovery of feelings, worry, anger, some funny and of course suspense. This book touches really hard on abusive relationships and you read a lot about it when it is being recalled. The love that develops and the understanding of each other is fantastic. As in most of Nicole’s books, you have guest appearances from Travis, Gage, RT and Z. I feel Nicole did a fantastic job portraying the long term effects of being in an abusive relationship as well as the discovery of what you want and how to go about it. This book does have a cliffhanger so I cannot wait for the next book to read the ending.

Although I pre-ordered this book and received it on my the day it was published, I put off reading it for a few weeks. Not because I wasn’t really looking forward to the book. You know I really LOVE all of the stories this author tells. But it was published less than a month before the bridal shower I was planning and I had tons of books from the library that I wasn’t going to be able to renew if I didn’t get to them. On top of all that, I started seeing there was a cliffhanger. (I will explain and address that soon, please read on and don’t let that discourage you from reading this book.) Since I knew the next book would be out in July I figured as long as I could avoid spoilers I could put off reading the book for a few weeks.

I’m so glad I held off. I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. This would have been very bad during my super busy weeks earlier in June. I don’t know how Nicole Edwards always is able to convey the chemistry between her characters so well. This story has HEAT! I loved all three of the main characters as well as their families (who we will see more of in the next book). The feelings Rhys had through the beginning of the relationship were so true to how I would imagine them being if this were real life. It always makes me happy when an author doesn’t totally sugar-coat everything…especially when dealing with an unconventional romance. The confrontation his feelings led to has to rank up there with my top 5 Nicole Edwards scenes. The raw emotion from Wolfe and the reactions of Amy and Rhys were so touching. Have I mentioned I loved this book?

Now for the cliffhanger. Personally, I don’t view this as a total cliffhanger. There are things (very big things) that are not resolved by the end of the book. There may not be an HEA (yet) but the love story has its resolution. Well, as much as a love story can have a resolution since love is always growing and changing. I’m sure you know what I mean by that, though. Being that there are many people involved in the part that was left open, I don’t know if it can be called a cliffhanger. Lynx and Reagan are the subjects of the next book in this series and they have almost as much to do with that underlying story as their brother and cousin are. Since the next book will be published about a week after I post this review, it shouldn’t matter to you anyway. If you are a Nicole Edwards fan already, you will want to read this book as soon as possible. Although this author’s books have a definite connection to each other, for many of them you don’t have to read one series to read another. So far that is very true with this book. Those that have read her other books get to visit with Travis, Cole, Z, and Ryan from The Alluring Indulgence series and the Sniper 1 Security series. But their part in this book is very small and you don’t have to know their back story to understand what they’re doing there.

One last thing. This will not change my rating of this book but it bothered me enough that I feel a need to mention it here. I am not a fan of this cover. Not that I don’t love the models or the pose. But the women who I am to believe is representing Amy looks pained. Plus, she’s way too tall in relation to the guys. I know, I know…I’m being petty. But it’s been bugging me since the cover was revealed months ago.

So I’m officially caught up on all books by Nicole Edwards…until next week when the next book in this series comes out. I just may have to do a re-read on those that I didn’t blog about to get my fix.
I'm liking the new characters and, of course everyone is connected in Nicole's world so we meet Travis and Gage from the Alluring Indulgence series and RT & Z from the Sniper One series.
The situation is not original but the fresh telling kept me engaged. A young woman escapes an abusive relationship and hides in a small town after after her boyfriend leaves her for dead on the side of the road. An older couple rescues her and she manages to get away from the "monster".
In town she gets offered a job as an office manager for Cedar Door (?) Furniture where Wolfe and Lynx Caine build the one-of-a-kind pieces that are sold in their store.
Rhys Trevino is the sheriff who shares a mutual attraction to Wolfe and Amy (our heroine)
You can imagine what happens...EXCEPT...Nicole Edwards leaves you with a cliffhanger.
There is no warning in the description of the book. I truly hate that.
Ms. Edwards, I am more than happy to purchase both books you don't need to leave me hanging in the first so I have to buy the second. That's a surefire way to drop me as a reader. I'm taking a star off for the cliffhanger.
WOW!! HOT, HOT!! I think this book just set my kindle on fire! Nicole Edwards in an amazing author and her style of writing is unique and brilliant! This is a story of two cousins, a sheriff, and a woman running away from her past. Wolfe and Lynx Caine have lived in Embers Ridge all their lives and on the weekends they tend to raise a little hell which includes bar fights. Amy Smith is a beautiful girl who works at the bar and the diner where the cousins frequent, but they know she's hiding something. Wolfe is attracted to Amy and the local sheriff, Rhys Trevino. Rhys is also attracted to Wolfe. The two are bisexual and when they succumb to their desires it's explosive. But the two men are also wanting Amy bringing her into a threesome. This is their story as their love unfolds and Amy's past comes back to haunt her. The story is strong and intriguing. The characters are well developed and very believable!! The sex is HOT with MM and MMF Relationships. You will fall in love with this story as their lives heat up and a madman sets out to destroy Amy. A cliffhanger leaving you on the edge of your seat. The first of the series!! Don't miss this one. You will not be disappointed!!!❤️❤️
